Why 'esperanto'?

"Live in fragments no longer... Only connect!" (E.M. Forster)

Esperanto is the international language, created in 1887. Spoken today by around five million people in over 100 countries, it's known as “the friendship language”. It was devised to overcome language barriers and to facilitate better communication between all humanity. We have adopted that spirit. We want this exceptional and unique place, with its natural beauty, to be a meeting place where people can connect and exchange in the spirit of openess and shared knowledge.

We have created this place to be easy and relaxing, somewhere you can engage with people from different cultures. The Esperanto Lodge team come from a combination of French, Ivorian, Guinean and Senegalese cultures, and invite you to enjoy a different travelling experience, and to discover a surprising region, la Casamance, with the rhythm of its tropical landscape and Atlantic ocean. This is a diverse culture, whose people will seduce you with their welcome and kindness.

Eric, Manager of Esperanto Lodge, French

"I fell in love with this exceptional and unique place for its richness and beauty fifteen years ago. Today, with my wife Justine and the Esperanto team, we try to share this to visitors fortunate enough to discover our region “de caractère”.

Justine, Manager of Esperanto Lodge, Ivorian

"In our restaurant, we offer dishes from my native Ivory Coast as well as French, Italian and Morrocan meals - and of course the famous Senegalese 'Tieboudienne' [fish and rice] and 'Mafe' [peanut sauce]. One of my specialities is marinated barbecued chicken (which I just might give you the secret receipe for!). I also recommend our grilled calamari in wine sauce, and, as we are by the sea, our grilled fish and lobsters on request. And don't forget our breakfast with my homemade jams of mango, papaya, orange, banana, bissap, grapefruit, coconut. See you soon !"
